Announcing the Second Annual Asheville Brewery Tour May 6, 7 and 8th.    Inviting all Triad home brewers from the Battleground Brewers Guild, High Point Hops and Winston Salem WortHawgs home brew clubs to an Asheville brewery and brew pub tour.    Experience a taste of Asheville’s thriving local beer scene,  judged by some to be the best in the nation.    This is an opportunity to meet up with other triad home brewers and tour some of Asheville’s best known spots.   Due to the extraordinary amount of choices for brew pubs, restaurants and breweries available, this is an individual and/or carpooling type event.    A simple itinerary is posted to guide us to meeting places along the three days of parting.  We stay at the Downtown Inn in Asheville.    This is a no frills hotel and appears old from the outside but the rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff is friendly.     Most importantly,  it is within walking distance of many excellent eateries and four breweries.     Reservations can be made by calling them at 828-254-9661 or visiting their website at http://www.downtowninnandsuites.com/index.php/reservations.     Rates typically are $65 a night for a room with a queen bed.   Public brewery tours for Highland Brewery are Monday thru Friday at 4pm,   for Pisgah  Brewery  Saturday at 2 and 3pm and  Asheville Pizza and Brewery has tours on Fridays 3-7pm.    Additional private tours can be planned as the tour comes together.    If you have a suggestion, please send email to mstoehr@triad.rr.com. Friday Itinerary starts at  11am at  Liberty Brewery High Point for lunch and a pint. Continues at 4pm at   Highland Brewery Tour, Asheville. The new tasting room is now  open.   There is usually a band on Friday evenings after the tour ends.   8pm at The Wedge Brewery in Asheville. 10pm at  Craggies Brewery in Asheville.   Saturday Itinerary starts at 10 am at  Tupalo Honey’s brunch (short walk from hotel.)   Noon at  LAB (Lexington Avenue Brewery, short walk from hotel).  2  pm  Pisgah Brewery Tour at Black Mountian, a few miles to the east of Asheville.    For those returning home Sat evening, meet at 6pm  Old Hickory Brewery in Hickory.  Other plans for Sat night and Sunday in Asheville will be planned as we go.
